Beyond the Screen
This was the world’s first second screen app, launching with 'the Cornetto trilogy': Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End. It enhanced viewing by using an iPad to show trivia usually found in cast and crew and commentaries and other DVD extras. Breakthrough technology listened to the soundtrack, triggering bite-sized trivia in real time.
The app received praise and five star reviews from the Sunday Times, Guardian, Stuff magazine, and heyuguys.com There were over 10,000 downloads within the first few weeks of launch.
I watched each film up to eight times to gather all trivia from commentaries, 'making of' features, and other bonus content. I created a 'trivia taxonomy' (location, production stories, cameos, soundtrack, 'easter eggs', etc). Copy was succinct so as not to distract from the movies. Each point had its own design, some of which I initially drew by hand.

No trivia is too trivial for diehard fans, so we enhanced them further still with infographics. Below are stats from Shawn of the Dead: body count, weapons used, characters' drinking abilities, and hidden cameos.

There was also a jukebox where you could play music from the soundtracks. It even hosted a pub quiz that let fans show off their knowledge.
